Yasmin Rashid granted bail in May 9 arson case
An Anti‑Terrorism Court (ATC) in Lahore on Saturday granted post‑arrest bail to Pakistan Tehreek‑e‑Insaf (PTI) Punjab president Dr. Yasmin Rashid in a case linked to the May 9, 2023 riots that involved the burning of police vehicles near Mughalpura.
The bail hearing was held inside Kot Lakhpat Jail before ATC‑I Judge Manzer Ali Gill, who approved the petition after hearing arguments from Rashid’s counsel; the court ordered her to furnish surety bonds of Rs100,000 as a condition for release.
Lawyers for Dr. Rashid argued the principle of consistency, noting that other accused in similar cases — including PTI founder Imran Khan and former officials whose bail petitions were previously allowed — had received relief from the courts; the judge cited relevant higher‑court decisions when granting bail in this matter.
The ATC adjourned hearings on Dr. Rashid’s bail petitions in three other May 9‑related cases; those proceedings have been scheduled for later dates as the court completes review of the separate matters.
